As the countdown to the new year begins, Cape Town is buzzing with excitement and endless possibilities. Whether you’re a local or visiting the Mother City, there are plenty of ways to celebrate and make this New Year’s Eve memorable.

Free New Year’s Eve party at the V&A Waterfront

A free New Year’s Eve party will take place at the V&A Waterfront, which will include a fireworks display at midnight. The five-minute display has been reduced in length from previous years to avoid causing significant stress to animals.

The concert line-up includes performances by Matthew Mole, the popular trio BlackByrd, and Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels. Mi Casa starts at 11pm and will be the final artist performing before the fireworks go off.

The festivities will take place next to the harbour from 18:00 to 01:00.

Spoilt for choice at the Time Out Market

Also at the V&A Waterfront is the Time Out Market, which is hosting a New Year’s Eve party with music and entertainment in its warehouse setting. An entrance ticket will cost R750 and includes a R250 food card to spend at any outlet at the market, such as Bertus Basson’s gourmet burgers or open-fire cooking from Vusi Ndlovu. Children under 12 will not be allowed, and the market opens at 17:00. It is located in the Old Power Station Building, 19 Dock Road.

Stylish party at Quoin Rock

Quoin Rock, Knorhoek Valley, Stellenbosch is hosting a sophisticated and stylish party with live music, dancers, an opera singer, fine food, excellent wines, bubbly, and a fireworks display at midnight. The Classic ticket costs R4 000 and includes canapés, gourmet plates, bubbly, and wine. There are also 30 VIP tickets available at a cost of R7 000 per person. The VIP tickets include a culinary experience from chef Paul Prinsloo at the Gåte restaurant, wine, bubbly, gin (including a secret tour), as well as access to the main venue for dancing and fireworks.

Laugh your way into the new year

The Pinelands Club in Lonsdale Way, Pinelands, will be hosting a stand-up comedy event including comedians Dalin Oliver, Yaaseen Barnes, and KG Mokgadi. There will also be live music and a dedicated Kids Zone with childminders. Doors open at 19:00 and the show starts at 20:30. Tickets cost R120 per person.

Disco extravaganza

Alcazar, in the heart of the city at 96 Hatfield Street, Gardens, is an upmarket extravaganza of eclectic music, mind-blowing stage architecture, and flamboyant performance art. This year’s theme is Disco Tropicana and will again feature the iconic three-storey stage. The New Year’s Eve event in Cape Town starts at 16:00 and runs until 03:00. Ticket prices start from R480. VIP Experience passes are also available.
