Kaizer Chiefs have good and bad news on the injury front as they prepare for midweek Betway Premiership action against Cape Town City.

Chiefs welcome back a few walking wounded

Kaizer Chiefs face Cape Town City on Wednesday following good news regarding players’ returns. Coach Nabi provided an update on several players with knocks and those who could be returning soon. Rushwin Dortley is a doubt and Wandile Duba is getting closer to a return after a long-term layoff.

“[Edson] Castillo is back with the team but probably not 100 percent fit because he has been away for a couple of months,” said the Amakhosi coach.

“We still have Happy [Mashiane] out as well for this game. We will be assessing Dortley in the next two days to see where he is at. Lilepo has been having some discomfort, and he will look at him today. OX [Mthethwa], probably we feel that he can play some minutes but not a full match,” Nabi added.

Not such good news on Morris

Young attacker Wandile Duba is nearing a return but Samkelo Zwane and Tashreeq Morris will play no part against City. That match is scheduled for Wednesday 12 March at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.

“[Wandile] Duba had his first training with the squad last week. Zwane is 100 percent out, completely out for the [CT City] game. Morris is probably going to take him three more weeks to come back, so he is out for this game, too.”

Amakhosi target Malian goalkeeper Diarra

According to SoccerLaduma, Chiefs are keen on recruiting Malian goalkeeper Djigui Diarra. The 30-year-old has 65 caps for his country and worked with coach Nasreddine Nabi at Young Africans where the player has been since 2021. The club are reportedly underwhelmed with new signing Fiacre Ntwari, while Brucs Bvuna isn’t seen as a long-term option between the sticks. Diarra is one of six names heavily linked with the club.
