‘They are really struggling again’ – Bafana coach gives his verdict on Kaizer Chiefs
‘When I see them play yesterday against Cape Town, you can’t say that everything is alright in that team,’ Bafana coach Hugo Broos on Chiefs

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says Kaizer Chiefs have a long way to go if they are to compete for the league title.
This comes after the 72-year-old coach failed to select any of their players in his 23-man squad. Bafana play Benin and Lesotho in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this month.
“I will not say that it will be a key point, but it can be if we can achieve six on six. I think we can make a big step to qualification, I am sure. But we have to do it, so again these are very important games, very tough games, because don’t underestimate Lesotho, maybe not on quality but on mentality.

“It is a team that fights for 90 minutes for every meter and certainly when they play against South Africa, they will do one step more, I’m sure of it,” he said.
“Then we play Benin. We had difficulty against Benin one year ago when we played against them. We won 2-1 but it was a difficult game. The circumstances are different now, we made a lot of progression, but still, it will be a difficult game also. So, let’s hope we can achieve what we want, and we are able to do it. But again, in both games maybe the mentality will be more important than the quality.”
On Kaizer Chiefs, the Bafana coach said the team has struggled to get results despite a promising start to the season.
You can’t tell already that Chiefs is back,” he said.
“I thought so maybe in the beginning of the season but then I don’t know what happened and still they are struggling.
“When I see them play yesterday against Cape Town, you can’t say that everything is alright in that team.
“When the team will be better, or when players will be better, surely, surely I will call up the players from Chiefs. But for the moment I don’t think I have to call them,” the Bafana coach added.
“They are really struggling again in the league and let’s hope, not only for Chiefs, but for all South African football, that next season we have again that big team, that big club that struggles and fights for the championship.”
