Retired action star Jet Li is set to make a triumphant return to the big screen after a five-year hiatus. The 61-year-old Chinese-born actor will star in “Blades of the Guardians,” as reported by Chinese Entertainment News.

His last film appearance was in the 2020 live-action adaptation of “Mulan.”

Li has been a part of numerous classics, including “Once Upon a Time in China,” “Fist of Legend,” “Kiss of the Dragon,” “Fearless,” “The Bodyguard from Beijing,” and “Hero,” among others.

In the new film, Jet Li will reunite with the renowned Hong Kong filmmaker and action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping. According to Movieweb, the star of “Lethal Weapon 4” has accepted an invitation to return to the film industry.

“Jet Li Returns to the Screen at 62! Recently, CCTV has begun promoting the upcoming martial arts film “Biao Ren” starring Wu Jing, with industry insiders predicting that the film’s box office could surpass 10 billion yuan. However, the biggest surprise is the return of Jet Li, who had previously announced his retirement years ago due to multiple old injuries that made it difficult for him to continue performing action scenes.

Despite this, Jet Li has accepted the invitation to make a comeback, joining forces with Wu Jing in what is set to be a legendary on-screen pairing. The news of Jet Li’s return alone is expected to contribute billions in box office revenue as fans eagerly anticipate this rare collaboration.

Wu Jing has long been a devoted fan of Jet Li, and it was Jet Li who helped Wu Jing enter the film industry in his early years. Now, after so many years, these two martial arts icons from different generations are coming together once again, creating what will undoubtedly be a visual feast for their fans.

Whether it’s for the nostalgia of Jet Li, the excitement of Wu Jing’s performance, or the future of Chinese martial arts cinema, Biao Ren is a film worth looking forward to!”

Li has been publicly dealing with hyperthyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, since around 2010. His condition appeared to have worsened in 2017 but the actor assured fans he was recovering.
