‘Unfair to qualified actors’: Mihlali Ndamase dragged for ‘Boxing Day’ role
‘Pretty privilege will never be matched’: Mihlali Ndamase’s role in the Showmax movie ‘Boxing Day’ has left some unsettled.
Beauty influencer and businesswoman Mihlali Ndamase bagged her first acting role in a new Showmax film titled Boxing Day. While most praised Ndamase for her acting skills, others have expressed that it was unfair for the influencer to land the role.
‘BOXING DAY’
Directed by award-winning director Mandla N, Boxing Day follows two siblings who are can’t afford to bury their grandmother. They become amateur kidnappers and take a minister hostage demanding ransom money for his life to settle the necessary funds.
Speaking to SowetanLive, Mandla N said a lot of people who watch the film will find it relatable because it asks explores questions about land.
“I mean Boxing Day is about land issues in SA and can you imagine if South Africans woke up tomorrow and during Christmas they were given their land back? Can you imagine how much of a beautiful Christmas we are going to have.”
Boxing Day stars the likes of Zola Nombona (who rose to stardom after featuring in Mzansi Magic’s Lockdown) and Hamilton Dlamini (who made his mark in the 2017 feature film, Five Fingers for Marseilles). Other cast members include S’thandiwe Kgoroge, Phumlani Magadla and Mihlali Ndamase.

MIHLALI NDAMSE’S ROLE
Beauty influencer Mihlali Ndamase celebrated her first movie role on Twitter and was congratulated while others pointed out that the role should’ve been given to a trained actor. On Boxing Day, Mihlali plays the minister’s girlfriend.
“Your girl landed a role in a movie, check out Boxing Day on Showmax.”
“I wish people who are talented and actually trained for roles like these would get them,” wrote one tweep.
“Mihlali got an acting role, so obviously it’s unfair to qualified actors.”

MIHLALI CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR OTHERS
Mihlali Ndamase launched her online beauty specialists platform called Malakyt in October. The platform allows beauticians to connect with clients at the click of a button.
The beauticians are ranked by rating, how much they charge and where they’re based. Shortly after Malakyt was launched, it had registered over 900 beauticians in Gauteng with plans to expand to other provinces.
