‘Skeem Saam’ lost 400 000 viewers in September

SABC1’s popular educational soapie ‘Skeem Saam’ lost more than 400 000 viewers between September and October.

Fan-favourite SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam lost over 400 000 viewers in September when it introduced new characters.

SABC SOAPIE LOSES VIEWERS

TVSA reports that Skeem Saam received 4.3 million viewers in August, while BRCSA confirms that it received 3.9 million viewers in September.

In the current storyline, fan-favourite villain Lehasa Maphosa (played by Cedric Fourie) was sentenced to prison after shooting and killing Pretty’s kidnapper, Tsietsi (played by Pholoso Mohlala).

Award-winning actor Sicelo Buthelezi’s character Tobias “Toby” Maswahla is also on trial for assaulting his girlfriend, Ntswaki (played by Lethabo Mekoa).

The September figures also reveal that Skeem Saam remains the third most-watched TV show on SABC1 after Generations: The Legacy with 4.4 million views.

Popular isiZulu telenovela Uzalo remains the most-watched TV show on the channel with 5.1 million viewers.

‘SKEEM SAAM’: NEW CHARACTERS

The award-winning SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam introduced a new Pitsi Maputla, played by rising star Lethabo Matsetela in September.

Pitsi’s on-screen parents Hungani Ndlovu who plays Thabo “Tbose” Maputla, and Mogau Motlhatswi who plays Mapitsi Maputla also welcomed their new bundle of joy, Baby Oratile (played by Realeboha Khotle).

Viewers also witnessed the new family of four moving out of Meikie’s house and moving into their new house in season 13.

Former Isibaya actor Samson Khumalo also joined the show as Boikanyo “Bra Boikie” Ramasemola, a flamboyant 50-something-year-old who isn’t afraid to speak his mind.

Bra Boikie is also municipal employee who assisted half-brothers and best friends, Kwaito (Clement Maosa) and Tbose to get their tender.
