NOMSA BUTHELEZI JOINING ‘THE QUEEN’

The actress-presenter Nomsa Buthelezi, who plays the mother of four boys MaJali and Brutus’ wife in The Queen reveals in an interview with Drum Magazine that 2022 is a year of opportunity for her.

“I am amazed even now. There are certain things that as an artist you pray for and when God brings them to you, it’s like a miracle. I have always wanted to work for the Fergusons so when I got that call, it was a dream come true,” she tells Drum.

Her character Majali is a Zulu woman from the rural areas who raised four sons Mlungisi, Nkosinathi, Cebo, and Bhambatha alone while her husband was away.

The actress describes herself as a smart ‘Kasi’ girl and has no issues getting into character.

“Being the thespian that I am, I challenged myself. For a Kasi girl and not having an experience of ‘abantu basekhaya’ (people from the rural), I had to get rid of Nomsa the slay queen. Majali is just a simple woman, whereas Nomsa is all about glamour,” she shares.

‘MAJALI IS A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH’

Majali, a mother of four, had to play the mother and father role all by herself, something that Nomsa resonates with as a single mother of two herself.

“The journey of being a mother is a journey of growth and rediscovery”

She also tells the publication that she completely relates to her character because she is a mother of two in real life.

“Majali is a symbol of strength, and what keeps single mothers going is the kids, every day we want to see them grow. No matter what, mothers must keep their eyes on the price, which is raising healthy and happy children,” she adds.
