WHY IS GARETH CLIFF TRENDING ON TWITTER?
Nando’s hosted a heated conversation titled The Burning Platform: OneSA vs The DA between:
- South African radio personality Gareth Cliff;
- One of South Africa’s national spokeswoman Mudzuli Rakhivhane; and
- Federal leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) John Steenhuisen.

THE CONVERSATION THAT SPIRALLED OUT OF CONTROL
The three individuals were discussing whether service delivery is a smaller problem than race baiting. The conversation then quickly spiralled out of control with Cliff and Rakhivhane speaking over one another.
The radio personality dismissed Rakhivhane when she attempted to talk about race baiting. He said her personal experiences were “anecdotal and unimportant”.
“The IRR has shown us endless reports of people who say that racism is at the bottom of their list of priorities and concerns,” said Cliff.
“They obviously don’t experience the kind of racism that I experience on a daily basis,” said Rakhivhane.
“Your personal experiences are completely anecdotal and unimportant to all of us, sorry,” he continued.
The pair then continues to speak at the same time, neither one backing off.
“Thank you! I appreciate the fact that you think the experiences of a black woman in this country is unimportant and irrelevant,” she continued.
“Mudzuli I am not interested in identity politics at all, nobody really is. They are only interested in themselves, what they can get out of this,” he added.
“And service delivery!” yelled Steenhuisen.

“When they try to talk over you and tell you that your experiences as a black woman in South Africa do not matter. Racism is structural and even operates at a municipal level. The literal definition of black lives don’t matter,” the post was captioned.
