Sifiso Meyiwa, the brother of late Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa says he is being intimidated by the police, who are now investigating him for corruption.

SIFISO MEYIWA SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS ON SENZO’S DEATH

Sifiso Meyiwa is the older brother of soccer star Senzo Meyiwa. Senzo was killed in an armed robbery on 26 October 2014 at his then girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus. Kelly and Senzo have a daughter named Thingo together.

Five men – Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifiso Ntuli – have been accused of murdering the soccer star. They are facing murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition. However, many do not believe these are the “real” killers. The trial for the five men is set to take place at the Pretoria High Court this week.

Sifiso has also expressed that he does not believe these men killed his brother. City Press reports that the police wanted to run a counter-trial to stop him from hindering the trial of the five accused.

“They are trying to intimidate me. They want me to stop focusing on this case and focus on the case that they are trying to open against me and [to] be scared and not interrogate the current trial,” said Sifiso to the publication.

WHY IS MEYIWA BEING INVESTIGATED FOR ‘CORRUPTION’?

Sifiso said his problems with the police began when he publicly declared that the five men accused of arresting the soccer star were the “wrong” suspects. He is an SA Police Service (SAPS) employee stationed at the Isipingo Police Station in Durban. So, the investigation against him was brought forward after he checked an update on his brother’s case on the SAPS system last year.

“I was working this other day and I wanted to check how far [the investigation into] Senzo’s case was. I saw that the people who were supposed to have been charged on this case are not charged on the system,” he told the publication.

“So I alerted the legal team that was helping me with the case. The following day, I got a call from police head office in Pretoria stating that I had a case being opened against me for going through the [SAPS] system which I work with every day,” he continued.

Sifiso was then notified that he was being investigated for fraud. He went on to say he had not been formally charged. However, he was informed via a text message by a police officer that he was suspected of corruption.

This comes after a video of Sifiso claiming he was threatened over a new discovery went viral. The circumstances around Senzo’s murder has also began trending again after Netflix released the a documentary diving into the details of the murder – Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star. Kelly has since hired an attorney, Magdalene Moonsamy to conduct a watching brief of the trial.
