ELTON JANTJIES LOSES BOXING MATCH, VOWS TO RETURN
Elton Jantjies and Lionel Mapoe’s celebrity boxing match consisted of three rounds of two minutes each.
The former Springbok players went blow for blow in the Octogan, with both players showing equal amounts of vigour and stamina.
However, unlike other fights, the audience decided on the winner – Lionel.
Thanking the crowd, Elton said: “Sometimes we get distracted by things around [us]. But let the main thing stay the main thing.
Elton, who thanked Lionel for putting up a good fight, indirectly vowed to return to the ring.
“This is the first of many,” he added.
FUTURE UFC FIGHTER?
Earlier this year, Elton Jantjies fuelled rumours he may venture into mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting after his rugby career was cut short over an alleged doping ban.
While the 34-year-old has not been playing professional rugby for quite some time, he enlisted the help of an experienced fitness coach.
Sunz Singh, or Coach Sunz as he is commonly known, is a South African-born fitness coach based in New Zealand.
While Coach Sunz professionally trains many rugby players, his Instagram bio also refers to him as a “world MMA trainer of the year nominee.”
According to the New Zealand Herald, he’s trained the likes of UFC champion Israel Adesanya and Sonny Bill Williams, who is a heavyweight boxer.
For his celebrity boxing match against Lionel Mapoe, Elton trained with retired boxer Mbulelo Transvaal.
In recent months, Elton has started his own rugby coaching business called The Game Changers.
