Not for the first time, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has publicly condemned EFF leader Julius Malema over his performance of the Apartheid struggle song, Kill the Boer.

The Pretoria-born billionaire has again accused the controversial political party leader of “promoting white genocide.”

On Friday, 21 March – which marked Human Rights Day in South Africa – Malema and fellow members instead commemorated those who died during the Sharpeville Massacre in 1960.

ELON MUSK SLAMS MALEMA’S KILL THE BOER PERFORMANCE

On Friday, Julius Malema headlined a rally at Dlomo Dam in Sharpeville as part of its “Sharpeville Day” commemoration.

During his speech, the EFF leader criticised US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who have accused South Africans of “racial discrimination” against white people. He also shunned those who disapproved of the recent Expropriation Bill.

Addressing the X owner, Malema continued: “We must not be intimidated by Elon Musk and everybody who stands with him. All those who are offered an opportunity to go to America because there is a genocide against them you are free to go. We have no home for racists in South Africa”.

After his address, Malema led the crowd in singing the Apartheid struggle song, “Dubula ibhunu,” translated as Kill The Boer.

Malema’s performance left many South Africans upset, including Elon Musk, who tweeted of the EFF:  “Very few people know that there is a major political party in South Africa that is actively promoting white genocide… A whole arena chanting about killing white people.”

Musk then referred to the Expropriation Bill as well as the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Act, which he has previously called “racist laws.”

He continued: “Where is the outrage? Why is there no coverage by the legacy media?

“Starlink can’t get a license to operate in South Africa simply because I’m not black. How is that right?”

IS IT ILLEGAL TO SING STRUGGLE SONG?

In 2023, Elon Musk criticised Malema for singing Kill The Boer at EFF’s 10th Anniversary celebrations. He’s even called on the 44-year-old to be declared an international criminal.

As controversial as the lyrics sound, a 2022 Equality Court ruling found that Kill the Boer was not considered hate speech.

Judge Edwin Molahlehi said of the song: “It does not constitute hate speech and deserves to be protected under the rubric of freedom of speech – it articulates the failure of the current government to address issues of economic empowerment and land division.”

Malema defended singing the song, saying in a press conference: “It’s part of my history. It’s where I come from. I use this song to remind myself of what we’ve gone through”.

He continued: “We’ve emphatically and repeatedly said the Boers and the farmers do not refer to individuals but refer to a system of oppression.

“So from its inception, it has never been targeted at individuals. It has always been targeted as a system of oppression.
