Like many South Africans, Somizi Mhlongo is advocating for “Justice for Cwecwe,” a primary school learner who was allegedly raped at her school in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.

Despite occurring in October 2024, the little girl’s case has only recently been made public.

JUSTICE FOR CWECWE: SOMIZI OFFERS HELP

This week, Cwecwe’s mother – whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of her child – detailed the horrific account of her daughter’s sexual assault at an Eastern Cape school.

After taking the little girl, who was not well, to seek medical treatment, doctors confirmed that the then-seven-year-old had been raped.

Cwecwe later confided in her parents that the alleged incident took place at school while she was waiting for school transport.

The school has since been deregistered after the school principal refused to comply with the investigation, reports the SABC.

On his social media page, media personality Somizi shared his heartbreak at the “Justice for Cwecwe” campaign which is demanding that action be taken against the school.

“Justice has to be served. If it means I am one of the people outside the court, making sure that the perpetrator faces the wrath of the law, so be it. I will cancel every gig that I have if it means me being there will help and make sure that justice is served”.

The entertainer also offered to pay the legal fees of Cwecwe’s family.

“I am willing to pay anything and everything that I have.

MARCH DEMANDING IMMEDIATE ACTION

On Change.org, a petition calling for the school to be transparent about what happened to Cwecwe is fast gaining momentum.

A part of it read: “We need open, honest answers to these pressing questions and a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

“Stand for justice. Sign this petition to show your support for Cwecwe. For accountability, for the safety of our children at school.”

Meanwhile, a group of anti-gender-based violence protestors took to the streets in Durban to march for Justice for Cwecwe. The crowd, mainly women, walked from King Dinizulu Park to the Durban Central Police Station to call on authorities to take immediate action against the perpetrators.
