Harry & Meghan cheer on Invictus athletes amid divorce rumours

The 2025 Invictus Games kicked off in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, with a star-studded opening ceremony with Prince Harry and Meghan.

Vancouver exploded with pride and excitement as Prince Harry and Meghan graced the opening ceremony of the 2025 Invictus Games.

The couple cheered and clapped as Team UK walked onto the stage. Harry, ever the charmer, noticed the cameras and gave a smile and a wave.

THE INVICTUS GAMES

The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry in 2014, is an international sporting event. It showcases the resilience and spirit of wounded, injured, and sick military personnel and veterans, according to Sky News.

This year, Vancouver hosts the seventh edition. For the first time, winter sports join the lineup. More than 500 competitors from 23 nations participate.

The opening ceremony was a spectacle. BC Place stadium roared with 40,000 spectators. Global music icons also graced the stage.

Katy Perry, Roxane Bruneau, Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed.

PERFORMERS AT THE INVICTUS GAMES

Hello! Magazine reported, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were welcomed with rapturous applause”. They arrived holding hands and exchanged loving looks.

Nelly Furtado, a Canadian icon, sang a medley of her hits. She shared the stage with Mattmac, a blind artist, and a group of disabled dancers.

Chris Martin brought his signature wit, performing Coldplay hits, according to ABC Money.

Meghan’s presence underscored her support for Harry and the Invictus mission. She shared a video on her Instagram story.

It featured her and Harry posing with Team USA. Another video showed her hugging a woman in a Team Canada kit.

Brendan Nelson, president of Boeing International, lauded Prince Harry.

He told the audience, “Prince Harry has given duty, courage, hope and love a name. Invictus”. As Nelson said, “We’re proud of you,” Meghan clapped, smiled, and touched Harry’s face.

The Invictus Games hold a special place in Harry and Meghan‘s story.

They made their first public appearance as a couple at the Toronto Games in 2017. South Africans can relate to the Games’ values of resilience and triumph over adversity.

The spirit of “Ubuntu,” resonates deeply with the Invictus Games.

Ubuntu, meaning “humanity towards others,” embodies the camaraderie and support among competitors.

The Games continue until 16 February. The closing ceremony will feature Jelly Roll, Barenaked Ladies, and The War And Treaty.
