Eskom you’ve done it again! An audience seated at the Joburg Theatre to see Grammy-winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo got the shock of their lives when loadshedding struck in the middle of the performance on Sunday 17 July. The video was shared by a local tweep on Twitter and one South African said loadshedding was “an embarrassment to the country”.

LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO STRUCK BY LOADSHEDDING 

Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed at the Joburg Theatre on 17 July in honour on Mandela Day. The choral group were singing their 1979 single, Halo My Baby, to a jam-packed audience when loadshedding stuck the theatre.

According to SowetanLive, the show was forced into a 45-minute intermission but when the lights come back on, Ladysmith Black Mambazo continued their performance.

Twitter user @MajavuThabiso wrote: “Loadshedding at Joburg Theatre while Ladysmith Black Mambazo was on stage performing.”

On 18 July, the tweep shared the video and South Africans were not impressed!

Reacting to the video, tweeps have bemoaned Eskom for loadshedding yet again while others just could not believe it…

“This loadshedding nonsense is an embarrassment to the country, sies!!!!” wrote one tweep.

“Such disrespect for our heroes,” wrote another tweep. 

“This is embarrassing.” 

“This is a multi-Grammy-winning group. They couldn’t organise a generator?! I’m so appalled!!!”

RUGBY MATCH CUT BY LOADSHEDDING 

In May, rugby players and fans were left in the dark after loadshedding struck a Currie Cup match in Mbombela, Nelspruit. 

The Pumas and Western Province were in the middle of a high-intensity match when they were plunged into darkness.
