WAITER CONFIRMS R2226 BILL WAS SETTLED

The waiter who preferred to remain anonymous and the General Manager, Joe from the Lifestyle restaurant confirmed to The South African on Thursday, 6 March that the patrons settled the R2226 bill on 21 February 2025.

This comes after People Living in Witbank Facebook group shared a screenshot of the CCTV footage of the patrons leaving the establishment on Friday, 21 February 2025 without paying the restaurant,

The post reads: “Two wanted criminals brazenly skipped out on a restaurant bill worth R2226 at 012 Lifestyle Emalahleni. The establishment has released CCTV footage of the culprits, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may lead to their capture.”

“The two entered 012 Lifestyle Emalahleni and bought beverages, accumulating a bill totaling R2226. However, when it came time to settle the account, the pair vanished into thin air, leaving the waiter responsible for their tab in a difficult position.”

The management of 012 Lifestyle Emalahleni also urged the community to come forward with any information.

SOUTH AFRICANS SUGGEST OTHER WAYS TO SETTLE LARGE BILLS

@IconikEvans tweeted: “Once the order goes past 5k, they gotta have a security guard or bouncer designated to that table. How are these pubs falling for the same finesse?”

@tofolux3 said: “Going forward, restaurants should ring up the order, insist on payment and only after payment, you then serve/supply. Even if they order 100 times then so be it. Rather ring up on until then pay than allow for skelms to con you. It’s done elsewhere.”

@thokzicbase tweeted: “It’s high time customers pay upfront for the service; the employees can’t be punished for something they have no control over.”

@StanzaBeatman: “Mara these waitresses never learn. Once the bill gets to R1000, let the client pay and a new bill. Buka manje (look now).”

@SNokhatyana: “The thing is when you give a customer a bill before they request it, they will think that you are undermining them, and you are being rude. And once they call the manager you might lose your job because they will say you are rude to their customers. This restaurant industry is hard.”
