A 10-hour water shutdown will affect 50 Johannesburg areas due to an unplanned maintenance.

The City of Johannesburg has been battling both power outages and water shutdowns since the start of the year. It seems there’s no end in sight regarding its power and water woes. Scores of areas in Joburg will be experiencing dry taps in the coming days, Johannesburg Water said in a statement.

JOHANNESBURG WATER SHUTDOWN TO AFFECT 50 AREAS

According to a statement issued by Johannesburg Water on 17 January 2025, there will be no water in 50 areas. This is due to an unplanned maintenance that will last 10 hours from 9:00 to 19:00 on Monday, 20 January 2025. Regarding the impact of the shutdown, the water utility said residents will have no water.

They further explained the reason for the maintenance. “Dummy run to be undertaken to check if isolation has been achieved at Hector Norris Pump. The isolation is required for installing new isolation valves at the pumpstation.”

All streets in these areas will be without water for the 10 hours. They ended the statement by stating that the maintenance will benefit customers by improving service delivery. Joburg Water also said tankers will be “provided as required.”
