South Africa’s Rihanna Navy had Twitter on sicko mode on Thursday when it was rumoured that their island gyal was a surprise installment for the upcoming Global Citizen Festival.

It is already a lot for many’s hearts that Beyoncè is walking on the same soil as theirs. Fam, we are still reeling from the prospect of Queen Bey and Usher sharing the stage for a live rendition of Love in this Club.

Bonang tweet sparks Rihanna Global Citizen Festival rumours

Now thanks to Bonang Matheba’s recently deleted tweet, Rihanna fans were hard pressed trying to figure out how to entertain the idea that their idol may make a surprise appearance at the festival.

As exciting this news may be, if we think hard and long enough about it, an act as big as Rihanna not being promoted as a headliner at the Global Citizen Festival really did not make an ounce of sense.

Riri’s humanitarian work with Global Citizen alone is a highlight for the organisation so it would only be right that her name would be put in the same space as Beyoncè’s.

Burst that bubble, she is not coming

Unfortunately for the hopefuls out there, it has been confirmed that Rihanna is not in South Africa and she is not slated to perform at the festival on Sunday, 2 December.

Rihanna, according to sources that spoke exclusively with Times Live, is not coming down here.

Guys, Riri is all the way in New York still pushing her Savage Fenty lingerie line.

Nothing is amiss though, since the line up for the Global Citizen Festival alone is asking for too much. Also, let us not allow stardom to shadow the purpose behind this beautiful initiative.

By the way Riri, when are we getting that album? That is a worthy trending topic that should get the icon’s attention.
