Parts of Tshwane to face 18-hour power outage this week

The City of Tshwane will implement a nine-hour power outage over two days in Soshanguve. 

The outage is scheduled for Thursday, 27 March, and Friday, 28 March 2025, respectively between 8:00 and 17:00. 

PARTS OF TSHWANE FACING 18-HOUR POWER OUTAGE FROM THURSDAY

The metro municipality said consumers in the supply zone of the Soshanguve IA Substation will be affected by the shutdown of power supply which will allow the municipality’’s team of technicians to work on the replacement of aged equipment at the substation.

“This inevitable work, which will enhance the quality of electricity supply to the residents, will last for nine hours between 8:00 and 17:00 on each day,” City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said. 

Here are the areas in Soshanguve that will be affected by the planned power outage on Thursday, 27 March:

  • Block BB and DD
  • Soshanguve SPS line (Tswaing)

The following Tshwane areas will be affected by the power outage on Friday, 28 March:

  • Block FF
  • Block JJ and part of Winterveldt
  • Block NN
  • Block IA
  • Block HH
  • Block LL
  • Block PP
  • Block GG

“Customers are advised to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times. The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the above-mentioned work,” Mashigo said.

TWO MEN APPEAR IN COURT FOR MURDER OF CPF MEMBERS

Meanwhile, two men have appeared in court for the alleged murder of six community patrollers at Marry Me, an informal settlement in Soshanguve.

The two men, a 27-year-old Zimbabwean national and a 50-year-old man appeared at the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the two men are both facing a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of ammunition. The 27-year-old man is facing an additional charge of being illegal in the country.   

“On 24 March 2025 the two were arrested separately by police after being found with unlawful possession of firearms and possession of ammunition in Soshanguve Extension 6 and Extension 20. The arrest comes after police were investigating the incident where patrol members were killed in Soshanguve, informal settlement (Marry Me)  

“In court, the 27-year-old told the court that he intends to provisionally abandon his bail application while the 50-year-old told the court of his intention to apply for bail. The matter was postponed to 1 April 2025 for further investigations and bail information,” NPA spokesperson in Gauteng Lumka Mahanjana said.
