‘Let your bat do the talking’ – Temba Bavuma continues to climb in the batting rankings
Temba Bavuma has made a significant leap in the batting rankings, moving up several positions after making making the top 10.
Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma has achieved a personal-best position in the ICC Test batting rankings.
The 34-year-old Langa-born batsman is currently ranked seventh in the ICC Test Batting rankings. Having missed the Bangladesh series due to injury, the cricketer known as ‘Malume’ made a return against Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series.
Temba Bavuma reeled off an innings-saving 70 which was then followed by a superb 113 in Durban. He was again on top form at St George’s Park making scores of 78 and 66 to help the Proteas to a series win. The 34-year-old has faced criticism for much of his career despite being the team’s best player in Test cricket for four years.
“I’m not a vocal person,” Bavuma said after the Test series win. “I believe in letting your bat do the talking, or if you’re a bowler, letting the ball do your talking. I don’t think that will ever change,” he said as per ESPN.
Temba Bavuma was named Man of the Series against Sri Lanka
Having scored more than 50 in four consecutive innings, Temba Bavuma said there was hunger and desire to score runs upon his return.
“It probably just strengthened the belief that I have in myself as a player,” he said.
“What helped me is that there was a lot of hunger and desire from my side to put in winning performances for the team. Fortunately, the opportunity was there throughout the series and I was able to make use of it.”
Temba Bavuma’s Proteas have one foot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. A win against Pakistan in their two-Test match series would see them contest for the final for the very first time in Lord’s.
