The world champion Springboks close out their season with a tricky trip to face Wales. Here’s all you need to know, Bok fans.

Springboks aim to finish the season with a Cardiff Crescendo

Yes, the title of this piece may sound a little arrogant but what’s life without a bit of fun? Rassie Erasmus’ South Africa squares off against the Welsh on Saturday 23 November with kickoff at 19:40 SA time from the Principality Stadium. Cameron Hanekom (loose forward) is set to become the 12th Springbok to make his Test debut this season after being named on the replacements’ bench by Bok coach Rassie Erasmus in a 23-man group showing seven personnel changes to the team that beat England 29-20 in London on Saturday.

Springbok siblings: Jordan and Jaden become number 36

It must be a special feeling representing your country in any sporting code. Now imagine how that’s magnified by doing so alongside a beloved family member. Jaden and Jordan Hendrikse will become the 36th pair of brothers to represent the Springboks when they face the Welsh.

Jaden (24-year-old scrumhalf) and Jordan (23-year-old flyhalf) Hendrikse are the first set of brothers to appear together since Dan and Robert du Preez featured against Wales in Washington DC at the start of the 2018 season. The last time a set of brothers were included in a Springboks starting team was in the Rugby World Cup pool match against Scotland in 2015 when front rowers Jannie and Bismarck du Plessis ran out in tandem in Newcastle.

Notable Springbok brothers

Younger readers will certainly remember the likes of Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis and the Ndungane brothers, Odwa and Akona. The wonderfully named Oupa & Hasie Versveld started their careers for the Springboks in 1891, some 133 years ago. Can’t say we remember them all that well.

Boks dominated World Rugby Player of the Year nominations

Nominated for the prestigious Men’s 15s Player of the Year are South Africa’s most capped player of all time, Eben Etzebeth – who broke fellow lock Victor Matfield’s record of 127 Test matches for the Springboks in September – Cheslin Kolbe (wing) and Pieter-Steph du Toit (utility forward), a former winner of the award. The Bok trio are up against Caelan Doris of Ireland. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is up for the Men’s 15s Breakthrough Player of the Year award.

Will the Springboks finish their season on another climactic high against Wales?
