Bafana stars Siyabonga Ngezana and George Matlou have been enjoying life lately.
Ngezana, who plays for Romania’s FC Steaua București (FCSB), is SuperLiga’s reigning Defender of the Year, showing his prowess against Manchester United in the Europa League only weeks ago.
FCSB, keen on keeping Ngezana, made the 27-year-old one of Bafana’s highest-paid players after helping them win the league title and Super Cup in his first two years at the club.
Ngezana’s contract
- R3.47 million (annually)
- R289,234 (monthly)
Matlou gets Chiefs blessing
With five months left on his contract, Matlou’s Kaizer Chiefs career hangs on by a thread – the maestro midfielder was told he would have to perform to keep his spot in Soweto.
And after a string of solid performances, it appears he has:
“For now, we can say the deal is as good as done,” a Siya source confirmed.
“The club wanted to see him, if he can play after the injury and after the technical team saw what he can do both at training and in the games he has played, they have agreed that they can offer him a new one-year contract with another one-year option,
“So, although it is not a done deal yet there is light at the end of the tunnel for George [Matlou]”.
An additional source reaffirmed Kaizer Chiefs intentions to keep the Bafana playmaker, “to be honest with you, his injury almost cost him his future at Chiefs,
“Last season he was expected to play an important role but after just a few games he got injured. It was a long-term injury and when the new coach came in he was still recovering and was not part of his plans going into the new season,
“But after fully recovering, the technical team gave him a chance and now he is on the verge of a new deal. The injury is what delayed his progress but hopefully now things are looking good for him.”
