Lesotho Football Association (LFA) has joined Nigeria in questioning Teboho Mokoena‘s ilegibility to play against them.

Mokoena featured against Lesotho on Friday despite having already accumulated two yellow cards in this FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder was booked against Benin on matchday 1 and again on matchday 4 against Zimbabwe.

According to FIFA rules, Mokoena was supposed to serve suspension against Lesotho but Bafana Bafana played him.

Now, the consequences could be dire with Bafana Bafana set to forfeit the three points gained against Lesotho if found guilty.

Bafana Bafana, already on 13 points and top of Group C, are in pole position to qualify for their first FIFA World Cup since 2010.

However, if found guilty, things could be different as the situation would bring the rest of the chasing pack back into the race.

LFA Secretary General Mokhosi Mohapi said they have since lodged a formal complaint and that Lesotho ‘want those points’.

LESOTHO’S FULL STATEMENT ON TEBOHO MOKOENA’S SAGA

“We were made aware of Mokoena’s bookings and we have since sent a formal inquiry to CAF and Fifa,” Mohapi to SowetanLIVE.

“We have heard that Nigeria also want to protest and they too are entitled to that because the result (last Friday) prejudices everyone. Suppose it was us who fielded a defaulter and got the points, Bafana would have done the same.

“Unfortunately, the law is the law and Safa should have known about the bookings. We have no hard feelings. We want those points.”
