Orlando Pirates legend Happy Jele says the Buccaneers should chase the CAF Champions League and the Betway Premiership.

Jose Riveiro‘s men have started the league very well, winning seven of their first eight matches. In the CAF CL, the team reached the group stages for the first time since 2019 when Jele was still playing for the Sea Robbers.

With four points from their opening two matches, Orlando Pirates need two wins to reach the knockout stages. Speaking to the media, Jele said the Buccaneers should limit themselves to one competition.

“Why should they choose? As a football player, when an opportunity comes, you want to grab it,” he said.

“If it comes in the league, take it, and if it comes in the Champions League, you take it. If you are a footballer, you have to think about each and every cup.”

Orlando Pirates are in action this weekend

The Buccaneers face Stade D’Abidjan in their third match of the CAF CL group stages on Saturday evening at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny. Jele said a draw wouldn’t be the worst result, given that it’s a tricky away fixture.

“On the continent, they’ve started well, but the most important thing for me is to protect them when they’re playing away,” said the Orlando Pirates legend.

“They need to get results away, even if they don’t win. But they should draw at least because the most important thing is getting out of the group,” he added as per IOL.

Can the Buccaneers win both the league and CAF CL?
