A top Kaizer Chiefs target is available on a free transfer after his club announced the termination of his deal.

Chiefs have been long-term admirers of midfielder Thabo Cele and now have yet another opportunity to sign him.

Chiefs set to announce Morris and Lilepo

The Glamour Boys are stepping up their transfer activity with just under a week to go in the current January window. According to the latest reports, Chiefs are set to announce the signings of Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo. The former is set to join Amakhosi in a swap deal from SuperSport United. The other side of the swap sees DRC forward Christian Saile leave to join Matsatsantsa.

On Tuesday evening, this publication reported that Chiefs had reached an agreement with Valenciennes FC to sign Lilepo. It was also claimed that the DRC international winger himself now has a pre-agreement with Amakhosi. He is expected to fly to SA soon for his medicals. They’re also in the process of handing young promising striker Naledi Hlongwane a three-year contract.

Long-term target Cele now available on a free

Now after the latest update on former SA U23 player Cele, there could be yet more good news for Chiefs. The Box-to-Box midfielder has now been released by his Russian club FC Fakel Voronezh.

“Due to serious health problems in the family, the midfielder and the club terminated the contract. According to the agreement between Cele and the club, the footballer will only be able to play for teams from South Africa until the end of the current contract. We wish the player good luck in his future career, and health to Cele’s family. All the best to you, Thabo!” Wrote a translated statement from Voronezh.

Third time lucky for Amakhosi?

Chiefs have tried to sign Cele on at least two different occasions. With the player being a free agent once again, a new pursuit becomes even easier. The 28-year-old has never been shy to profess his love for Amakhosi. It now remains to be seen if a deal can finally be struck between the two parties.

Chiefs fans would you be happy to see Cele finally sign for your club? Is he the missing final piece of the midfield puzzle? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below!
