Mamelodi Sundowns could be braced for a massive bid for one of their top players ahead of the January window.

Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners!

Rangers interested in Rayners

Rangers are no strangers to the South African market having also been credited with an interest in Relebohile Mofokeng. A move did not end up materialising for the Orlando Pirates star who stayed put at the Soweto giants. But as it stands, Rangers have not left the South African market yet it seems. Recently, this publication reported that they had made an inquiry for Rayners. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, they have now gone one better and put in a mammoth bid for the player! The offer is thought to be valued at a whooping R55 million!

“It’s true the offer is there (Rayners) and it’s around R55 million but you know it’s the Sporting Director (Flemming Berg) who deals with such things. He is the one in charge of the dealings at the club and the others do contracts and daily running only. But as far as the outgoings and the incomings are concerned, it’s the Sporting Director and the offer came through his office but it’s there,” said one source to the publication.

Make R55 million offer to Sundowns

Another source says Rangers are now awaiting a response from Sundowns on their value for Rayners…

“If Sundowns will counter that offer or they can name their price tag if they are interested. Because it doesn’t mean the offer that Rangers have tabled or offered is the final one. So, any deal still remains in the hands of Sundowns as they have the final say. But as things stand now they are not ready to let their top striker (Rayners) go just after signing him this season. Even though the R55m offer is there it’s not clear cut that a deal would happen,” said the source.

It now remains to be seen if that price would be enough for Sundowns to release their main man. Masandawana fans, should the club cash in on Rayners? Or should they reject the Rangers interest? Please feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
