Kaizer Chiefs always want new players and one ex-Orlando Pirates star was on the brink of a switch to Naturena.

Mhango reveals Kaizer Chiefs talks

Experienced Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango, now with Marumo Gallants, wasn’t far from becoming a Chiefs player. The diminutive forward has an impressive tally of 17 goals from 68 caps in a Malawi jersey. He also scored 23 goals from 71 outings for Orlando Pirates.

“It wasn’t just talk, but I was about to go to Chiefs, and then things turned around,” Mhango told FARPost. “Up to now, I don’t even know what happened. But I remember I was at AmaZulu, and I actually travelled from Durban to Joburg to complete the move. I was happy that I was going to be at Chiefs, but then things happened.

“I was looking forward, but at the end of the day, I was disappointed as it failed to happen. However, I am loving the game and the place where I ended up,” Mhango added.

More dropped points against AmaZulu

Mhango’s old club AmaZulu will be slightly disappointed they only managed a point against Chiefs. That’s a barometer of how things have changed in the way other clubs perceive the Glamour Boys.

New signing Tashreeq Morris’ effort in the 18th minute went down as a Ramahlwe Mphahlele own goal. Tshepang Moremi, a man mentioned as a Chiefs target, equalized for Usuthu in the 23rd minute. Elmo Kambindu put them ahead on the hour mark. New boy Glody Lilepo’s back post header was awkwardly fumbled into his net by Richard Ofori in the 63rd minute to earn a share of the spoils for Chiefs. They now sit fifth in the table. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi is under huge pressure to deliver tangible success for the club this season. However, fans in several comments sections aren’t convinced he’s the man for the job.

Orlando Pirates have Sekhukhune in their crosshairs

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Sea Robbers have had a few days of rest after their narrow win over Chiefs in the Soweto Derby. It’s likely manager Jose Riveiro will field the same XI he did in the Derby. Patrick Maswanganyi’s 96th-minute panenka penalty was the decisive strike against Chiefs.

Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sesane, Sibisi, Hotto; Makhaula, Mbatha; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa.
