Expensive flop? Pirates make BIG decision on R10m star’s future!

Orlando Pirates have not had the greatest recent record of important from the continent of late. 

Their latest acquisition from outside the county’s borders is now also having a tough time at Pirates. 

In the past, Pirates have had the likes of William Okpara, Isaac Chansa, Onyekachi Okonkwo, and late Dennis Lota. That being just to mention a few of the iconic players who left a legacy donning the Buccaneers jersey. But of late there has been very few players to write home about in an attempt to follow suit. 

Pirates struggling with recent imports

Out of the recent signings, perhaps Nigerian international centre-back Olisa Ndah is the player doing the best. Although injury prone, his calm sense of defending as well as ball-playing ability have seen him become a fan favourite at Pirates. So far, the same cannot be said about the latest addition in Gilberto. 

Gilberto joined Pirates amid much fanfare in the previous window, in a deal confirmed to be worth R10 million. While many fans would’ve seen his exploits for both Angola and Petro de Luanda and expected him to dazzle immediately. That has not proven to be the case, however, as a combination of factors saw his Sea Robbers career fail to take off thus far. 

Upon arrival at Pirates, Gilberto’s official debut was delayed due to paper work issues. When he did eventually get his chance, he didn’t set the world alight. He still hasn’t established himself in the side, even seeing young Mohau Nkota usurp him. That has led to questions on his future just six-months after joining.

According to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates will remain patient with Gilberto!

“That is not true, as far as I know. As an attacker, he is expected to create and score goals, but it doesn’t mean he has failed. It is his first season, and the club understands that there is also an adjustment phase to take into consideration. He’s got the support of the club to regain his form and to deliver the goods”. Said a source to the same publication.
