Monnapule Saleng’s stay with Orlando Pirates might be about to come to an end. What does the exciting winger earn?
Saleng is earning less than expected with Orlando Pirates.
According to Goal, Monnapule Saleng’s salary isn’t among the very highest in the PSL. It’s in the region of R70,000, or R280,000 a month. It’s not shabby, but it means he’s not in the top percentile of earners in South Africa.
“If he was not an important asset, Bafana could not have called him,” Saleng’s friend Boikanyo Maine told Sunday World.
“We are requesting that Pirates consider what he wants. It’s unfair, imagine getting R70,000 but your contribution in most of the matches speaks volumes while somebody [else] is getting R500,000.”
Saleng’s mother weighs in
“He just wanted the team to pay him what he deserves,” said Saleng’s mother Makie Tsoeu.
The winger’s father Thabo also joined in expressing sadness at his son’s situation.
“I’m in pain,” Thabo Tsoeu added.
“He is the one who cares for us at home, and seeing his profession in such a state crushes my heart.
“I wish he could tell me what is really bothering him before it’s too late. The problem is the contract. We would want him to stick with Pirates because it is one of the biggest clubs in the country.”
Kwayiba is still a target
According to SoccerLaduma, Orlando Pirates have made Sinoxolo Kwayiba their priority transfer target in June. The 25-year-old Chippa man was recently capped by Bafana. He’s got an eye for goal, and he’s already scoring six times in the league this term. Interest in Kwayiba follows from the club getting cold feet on signing Siphelele Luthuli, who trained with the Buccaneers after leaving Chippa.
