Cape Town Spurs have made a valuation for their budding star, Asanele Velebayi. Could Kaizer Chiefs match the figure?

It’s been a while since Kaizer Chiefs pursued Asenele Velebayi after the Soweto Giants had several bids rejected before the current season.

Following Cape Town Spurs’ relegation from the PSL, the highly touted 22-year-old was sent to the National First Division, sparking a transfer frenzy; however, the Mother City outfit was able to keep hold of their man.

Velebayi transfer value

Kaizer Chiefs haven’t followed up on the Bafana youngster in the summer window, opting for experience rather than potential, as evident by the arrival of 30-year-old Tashreeq Morris.

Sekhukhune United had their bid rejected this month following Cape Town Spurs’ R10 million asking price – could this tempt Kaizer Chiefs back into the picture?

Agent confirms Chiefs talks

“Chiefs came back with a second offer and gave, in my opinion, a valuation that was very fair with add-ons, and they also didn’t accept that. They thought the valuation was low, and then they stopped just there,” said Velebayi’s agent, Lance Davids, when asked about Kaizer Chiefs enquiry before the 2024/25 season.

“In my opinion, I thought the valuation that Cape Town Spurs was looking at for Velebayi, compared to Oswin Appollis, it’s a no-brainer – you can’t compare [the two players’ value]. At this point, what did Oswin achieved in the last year?

“So I think the valuation of Velebayi was crazy; I think Kaizer Chiefs, to be honest, was very fair on their proposal and, in my opinion, they could have still add some more add-ons.

“Of course, they did not because they thought they were also fair on their proposal, and the deal fell through… I’ll be honest, at first Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million, they came down to R10 million, and Chiefs’ offer was R5 million plus players.”

Should Kaizer Chiefs sign Velebayi?
