Chiefs have made the decision to part ways with defender Zitha Kwinika at the end of the season. According to a source close to the club, the 30-year-old does not fit into the team’s future plans, making a contract renewal highly unlikely. With his current deal set to expire, the club has shown no signs of offering an extension, signaling that Kwinika’s time at Amakhosi is coming to an end.

Kwinika’s struggles this season

After re-joining Kaizer Chiefs from Stellenbosch in 2022, Kwinika initially made a strong impact. However, this season has been a different story. He has fallen significantly down the pecking order, managing just 14 minutes of game time in a 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in January, where he came on as a late substitute.

Despite regularly featuring on the bench, Kwinika has struggled to earn meaningful playing time. He has made the matchday squad 11 times this season but has remained on the side lines for most games.

Chiefs continue their squad overhaul

Chiefs have already offloaded several players, including Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sabelo Radebe, and Thathayaone Ditlhokwe. Now, Kwinika appears to be next in line as part of the club’s squad revamp.

With his contract set to expire soon, all signs point to an exit. The club remains focused on refreshing its roster, making it highly unlikely that Kwinika will be offered a new deal.

What’s next for Kwinika?

As the season nears its conclusion, Kwinika must make a crucial decision about his next move. With limited playing time at Kaizer Chiefs, he needs to find a club that offers regular opportunities to get back into top form. The club’s ongoing squad overhaul leaves little room for him in future plans, making his departure almost certain.

With his experience and defensive skills, several clubs could show interest in signing him.

Will the defender find a fresh start at another PSL club, or will he explore options abroad? Only time will tell, but his time at Amakhosi appears to be running out.
