Kaizer Chiefs join the pursuit of Richards Bay forward – Latest
Chiefs have joined Pirates in the race to sign a Richards Bay star setting up a Soweto derby battle for the talented youngster.

Kaizer Chiefs join the pursuit of Richards Bay forward, here is the latest.
Chiefs enter the race for the Bay star
As previously reported, Pirates have shown interest in Richards Bay striker Yanela Mbuthuma. Now, sources close to both Richards Bay and Kaizer Chiefs confirm that Amakhosi have also inquired about the 23-year-old attacker.
Chiefs remain determined to strengthen their strike force, and insiders suggest that they see Mbuthuma as a potential solution for next season.
“Chiefs are also interested in that Richards Bay striker that Pirates have enquired about before, Yanela Mbuthuma. For now it’s just the interest from the team. I am not sure if there is anything official yet from Chiefs to talk to Richards Bay. But what I can tell you is that Chiefs are interested in him,” the source stated.
Will Richards Bay sell? Money could decide
Richards Bay may find it difficult to part ways with their key forward next season, but financial incentives could influence their decision.
“Yes, it’s true Richards Bay still need Yanela (Mbuthuma) mainly for next season. But you know that football is business these days so if the money is good then they may consider it. And it’s also true there has been interest in him but I don’t know if there is any team that has officially presented an offer so far,” the source revealed.
Mbuthuma’s Impact and Chiefs’ History of Targeting Goal Scorers
Mbuthuma has been a key player for Richards Bay this season, contributing goals despite not yet proving himself as the sole solution to Chiefs’ attacking struggles. However, he made a strong statement by scoring in Richards Bay’s 2-0 victory over Amakhosi in the PSL on Sunday.
Historically, Kaizer Chiefs have shown a tendency to sign players who have performed well against them, as seen with Tashreeq Morris. This pattern could work in Mbuthuma’s favour as the Soweto giants look to reinforce their frontline.
