Kaizer Chiefs: Do you know Maart’s nickname? We love it
There are no maybe’s, Yusuf Maart has stolen the hearts of Kaizer Chiefs fans. A former player has now offered a nickname.
Kaizer Chiefs have blown hot and cold this season. Of the few grand performances, most of them have been inspired by footballers like Yusuf Maart in central midfield.

As SuperSport TV confirmed a fortnight ago, the 27-year-old from Atlantis, Western Cape, was the best player on the green grass as Amakhosi defeated Orlando Pirates by a lone goal in the Soweto derby.

But long before the Soweto derby goal, the popular SABC Sports commentator and former Chiefs player Siphiwe Mkhonza praised Maart way before many of us.
It was in August when Mkhonza went on Twitter to sound like an actual praise singer/poet over Maart.

The passionate praise included the mention of a rather fitting nickname for Maart: ‘Maarrinator’ from the world marinate, which refers to the softening or flavouring of meat before cooking.
If you think about it, Maart essentially marinates opposition midfielders and defenders. Mkhonza’s praise added to compare Maart to the one who provides impempho (an indigenous African plant that, once dried, is burnt in order to communicate with one’s ancestors).
