Kaizer Chiefs out of favour star set to leave Naturena amid rebuild.

Zitha Kwinika’s time at Kaizer Chiefs appears to be coming to an end, according to reliable sources. The seasoned defender, who has yet to feature in the 2024/2025 season, seems to be excluded from head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s vision for Amakhosi.

No game time for Kwinika under Nabi

At 30 years old, Kwinika has not stepped onto the field this season. Despite being named on the bench for the recent 2-0 defeat to Polokwane City and the 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy, he remained an unused substitute. Insiders within the Mgosi Squad suggest the January transfer window could mark his exit from Naturena.

Kwinika returned to Kaizer Chiefs in 2022 after excelling at Stellenbosch FC. His career journey has included stints at Chippa United and Bidvest Wits after initially leaving Chiefs in 2016. Although he was part of the Chiefs’ development pipeline, his first official senior appearance only came upon his return.

Sources confirm potential January departure

“Zitha is a good professional, but this season, it hasn’t worked out for him,” an insider revealed. “He did well in the past two seasons at Chiefs and was an important member of the team. However, coach Nabi hasn’t used him. It’s clear that he’s not in the coach’s plans, and he might be offloaded as early as January.”

The source added, “So far, I’m not sure if there have been any offers for him from other PSL clubs, but what is clear is that coach Nabi prefers other players to him.”

What’s next for Kwinika?

As the January transfer window approaches, speculation about Kwinika’s next move is likely to intensify, fueled by his consistent performances and growing reputation as a dependable player. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see whether he will remain in the Premier Soccer League, potentially joining another top club, or seek opportunities abroad to test his skills on an international stage.

His potential departure from Kaizer Chiefs would mark the end of a second chapter at the club, where he has left an indelible mark with his contributions on and off the pitch. For the team, it would also signify a significant loss, as they would need to fill the void left by his experience and versatility.
