Fawaaz Basadien to Kaizer Chiefs back on? – Latest

Kaizer Chiefs have a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Bafana defender Fawaaz Basadien.

Kaizer Chiefs are longing for some stability on their defensive flanks.

Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien was one of their priority signings heading into the January transfer market, but the 28-year-old didn’t budge. The upcoming winter window could evoke a change of thought.

The Cape Winelands outfit has muscled its way to becoming one of the most formidable teams in the country, as evidenced by its third-place finish last season, fourteen points ahead of AmaKhosi.

Basadien, alongside Jayden Adams and Iqraam Rayners, was the main protagonist in Stellies’ momentous 2023/24 season that saw them secure CAF Confederation soccer.

Is a Basadien trade likely

It remains up in the air whether the former Moroka Swallows will leave in the offseason. Still, Kaizer Chiefs’ chances of landing him have improved significantly with the player’s sell-on clause set to expire, eradicating Swallows’ 30% cut.

“According to reports in the local media, a 30% sell-on clause in Basadien’s contract, which he signed when he joined the club from Swallows FC, is set to expire in June, giving Amakhosi a chance to secure the services of the Bafana Bafana left back,” SoccerLaduma reported.

“With the sell-on clause reportedly expiring, Stellies will receive the entire transfer fee for the player and may not inflate it as much as they would have while the sell-on clause was still active. The Soweto giants may feel that they have a shot at finally bringing in the player to bolster the squad.”

Kaizer Chiefs biggest obstacle remains with Basadien, who appears committed to the Cape Winelands outfit; but it would be wrong to assume that he’s not considering a move to one of, if not the country’s biggest club.

Should Kaizer Chiefs try sign Basadien?
