Kaizer Chiefs seal second major January deal – report
Kaizer Chiefs had been facing huge criticism from a section of their fans for not doing enough to bolster their squad this month.
Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly sealed their second major January transfer window deal in winger Glody Makabi Lilepo.
This is according to FARPost, who reports that a club-to-club deal between Chiefs and Valenciennes FC was finalised a few days ago.
Lilepo, who hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is on the books of French third-tier team Valenciennes FC.
And as soon as both clubs reached an agreement, the winger discussed and agreed personal terms with Chiefs.
The publication reports that Chiefs forked out an estimated R9.6 million for the services of the Congolese winger.
All that is left is for Lilepo to undergo his medical tests with Chiefs and sign on the dotted line, according to the same report.
It is reported that Lilepo, 27, is one of the players Nasreddine Nabi long admired from his time with Young Africans.
Meanwhile, Lilepo’s acquisition would bring the number of new signings at Chiefs to two after Tashreeq Morris.
Morris joined Chiefs from SuperSport United in a shock deal, and has penned a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Now, Lilepo’s move to Naturena means Chiefs have to offload one foreign international to free-up their PSL quota.
And as things stand, Christian Saile looks set to leave Chiefs with SuperSport United eager to sign him before or on January 28.
KAIZER CHIEFS SIGN R10 MILLION-WORTH LILEPO
“Betway Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs have bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of Congolese winger Glody Makabi Lilepo. Following days of speculation, FARPost can reveal that Chiefs have reached an agreement with Lilepo’s French third-tier side, Valenciennes FC, for a transfer fee believed to be around €500,000 [R9.6 million],” reads part of the report.
“The player has signed a pre-agreement with the South African giants and is set to join the club pending a successful medical. Lilepo, a 27-year-old winger, has opted to join the Soweto giants despite interest from European clubs, including those in Ligue 2 and Tunisia.”
