Lucas Ribeiro Costa has taken the PSL by storm.

Thirteen goals in twenty-one league games has the Brazilian four goals up on the scoring charts. He can almost touch the Golden Boot trophy. The 26-year-old is in a league of his own, boasting a third-high seven assists, showcasing his all-around capabilities.

The lead protagonist of the most successful team in South Africa, there was always going to be interest abroad. Miguel Cardoso said to enjoy him while we can—this campaign just might be his closing act.

On the move?

Ribeiro has had one of those seasons that will be forever etched into PSL folklore, cemented by his emphatic brace against Orlando Pirates. The Sundowns star amassed four assists and five goals in as many games between December 12 and February 8.

According to reports, the French side LOSC Lille is the latest to show interest.

“This is new interest. There are Lille representatives who have enquired about him,” SoccerLaduma confirmed.

“They have shown serious interest in Ribeiro and the team cannot ignore that. But you know there are other clubs who have shown interest before, and the club is just waiting to hear from all those teams on the way forward.”

The FIFA Club World Cup may stall negotiations, Sundowns are rightly adamant to keep him, but it won’t stop a move from happening. Ribeiro could be heading to Europe before the start of next season.

Mamelodi Sundowns lie fifteen points ahead of Orlando Pirates (who have four games in hand) heading into the international break.
