‘Mamelodi Sundowns agreed to sell him to Kaizer Chiefs but…’
Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns could not get a transfer over the line for a Bafana Bafana international despite an agreement in place!
Kaizer Chiefs had some wins in the recent transfer window, but they also had to deal with some losses.
Chiefs signed three players, adding experience to their squad as they look to improve their fortunes in 2025 and beyond.
Chiefs signed three players
Amakhosi went on to sign DRC international winger Glody Lilepo, striker Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele. The two forwards Lilepo and Morris were confirmed to have signed a 2-and-a-half year deals. While midfielder Cele, however, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Chiefs. One position they’re reportedly still trying to strengthen is the left back area.
At the start of the season, Chiefs added two left-backs to their squad. Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam both joined the club as they looked to revamp that position. Cross has not inspired the faithful with much confidence, while Sam is yet to play an official game for the club. Despite signing from arch rivals Orlando Pirates for R3 million, he was set to go on loan Magesi FC on loan. That deal then fell through, meaning he stays put.
Missed out on Mashego despite Sundowns agreement
It could’ve all been so different for Chiefs, however, with a pursuit for Terrence Mashego. According to Soccer-Laduma Mamelodi Sundowns had agreed to sell the player to Amakhosi.
“You know why Sundowns agreed to the deal and gave Chiefs the price? It’s because they don’t want to lose him (Mashego) for free in July, he will technically be a free agent. So imagine losing out on such a quality defender? He is one of the best left backs in the country and he can play at any team in the PSL. Chiefs lost out on quality here because they didn’t want to pay,” said the source.
It remains to be seen if Chiefs will return for Mashego at the end of the season. They’re also rumoured to be interested in Simba SC and Tanzanian captain Mohamed Husseini. Amakhosi, which of the two would you rather sign? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
