Orlando Pirates 11 goals, 8 assists star ready to rock the derby
Pirates have some awesome players on their hands.
Orlando Pirates have several players who are exciting and prolific in the final third but one name shines above the rest.
Mofokeng is the Orlando Pirates MVP
Relebohile Mofokeng is now arguably the most important player on Pirates’ books. The dazzling wideman already has 11 goals and eight assists across all competitions this term, a stunning output for one so young.
What’s Mofokeng’s record against Kaizer Chiefs?
Rele has won both of his meetings with great Soweto rivals Chiefs. However, on a personal level, he’s not yet scored or assisted against them. It’s a record he’d love to set straight on Saturday 01 February at 15:30.
Nkota is a capable understudy
20-year-old winger Mohau Nkota has settled seamlessly into life as a first-team regular with Pirates. He’s scored twice in nine league appearances this term and also made a huge impact in the Caf Champions League. He’s got two goals and two assists in the elite continental competition.
Will Saleng play against Chiefs?
According to SoccerLaduma, 26-year-old winger Monnapule Saleng is back in the fold and training with his teammates. However, the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs might come too soon.
“He (Saleng) is a Pirates player and like any player who is fit and ready he will always be available for selection. He will be back with the team soon to continue from where he left off with his contribution,” said a source.
“Although Saleng’s possible return might not necessarily be in the Soweto derby this weekend according to sources, indications are that there is progress in his situation for him to get back into the team and compete for a place in the starting line-ups again.”
Double defensive boost for Pirates
In Pirates’ relatively comfortable 3-1 win at Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup, regular number one goalkeeper Sipho Chaine sat the game out. He’s one booking away from a suspension so Pirates had one eye on the Soweto Derby in this regard. Nkosinathi Sibisi missed the clash at Bay through suspension but he should return against Kaizer Chiefs in place of Tapelo Xoki.
