Orlando Pirates to leave Basadien transfer for first-year defender?
Orlando Pirates could be about to forget Stellenbosch star Fawaaz Basadien in their pursuit of promising youngster.
Orlando Pirates’ negotiations with Fawaaz Basadien seem to have gone stagnant.
Their inability to sign the Bafana Bafana defender has them looking in Limpopo, namely Sekhukhune United’s Vuyo Letlapa.
The 21-year-old has impressed in his debut season, assisting twice in ten games while providing added stability in an already well-tune back four.
Rumours confirmed
The Soweto outfit has been trying to lure Basadien for months but, with time not on their side, seems to have reached its limit, with no resolve or advanced talks to speak of.
“You know he is still young and has a great future ahead of him as long as he can just remain grounded as he is now,” SoccerLaduma reported.
“That’s why it’s believed that apparently they are look at him as a replacement option for Fawaaz [Basadien] if they can’t get him. Yes he may have not have the experience right now but that comes with playing regularly at a top level and that’s what these clubs are looking at.”
The news of Orlando Pirates – who have Mamelodi Sundowns to deal with – interest in Letlapa was further confirmed by an additional source, who said, “It’s not surprising that he has attracted interest from these two teams [Pirates and Sundowns].”
“He is hard working, dedicated and resilient in what he does. You know they signed him from Jomo Cosmos in the ABC Motsepe League, and he has proven how good he is in a short space of time. No matter which team he ends up signing for, he will do a great job. He is a good player.”
