Orlando Pirates comment on Patrick Maswanganyi transfer talk!
Orlando Pirates have moved to set the record straight on reports claiming star man Patrick Maswanganyi is set for a R40 million abroad.
It was rumoured that Orlando Pirates star Patrick Maswanganyi was the subject of interest from a Portuguese side.
The team in question was believed to be Maswanganyi’s former side Oliveirense who are thought be impressed with his progress.
Maswanganyi was linked with R40 million move
In November last year, this publication reported that his former side in Portugal Oliveirense wanted him back! It was thought that they were willing to pay Pirates R23 million for Maswanganyi’s services. This was after citing a report from Soccer-Laduma, who recently followed up saying the two clubs are now in dialogue. Subsequently, it was stated that the Buccaneers want R40 million for their star man.
Now following those widespread reports on Maswanganyi to Oliveirense, Pirates have, however, come out to deny such news. They claim they’re fabricated and disgruntling to the team.
Pirates, however, deny any truth to those reports
“As Orlando Pirates Football Club, we have noted with great concern a growing trend of misinformation circulating on social media and in certain media outlets regarding alleged offers for some of our players. Ordinarily, the Club refrains from engaging with baseless rumours aimed at creating unnecessary sensationalism and clickbait. However, the persistence and escalation of these unsubstantiated claims now compel us to set the record straight.

- On 20 January 2025, Briefly News Sports published an article titled, Portuguese Club Eyes Bid for R40 Million-Rated Orlando Pirates Star. Once again, the Club categorically rejects this as sheer gossip. No such offer has been presented to the Club.
- It is deeply troubling that these baseless stories are not only misleading but also serve to disrupt the focus of our players and destabilise the team. This is entirely unacceptable.
