The Buccaneers find themselves in second place in the standings, behind defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns only on goal difference after eight matches.

Orlando Pirates have won seven of those fixtures and lost one and boast 21 points to date.

They have scored 13 goals and conceded a league-low of just three, giving the Soweto giants a goal differential of +10.

Perhaps most satisfying of all, Orlando Pirates are a full 10 points ahead of bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

CAF Champions League action

Orlando Pirates are also juggling CAF Champions League commitments this season.

After two matches, they lie second in Group C behind Egyptian giants Al Ahly on goal difference.

The Buccaneers’ next fixture will indeed be an away CAF Champions League group stage match against Stade d’Abidjan from Ivory Coast on Saturday, 14 December.

Kick-off is at 18:00 (SA time).

Following that, Orlando Pirates will finish 2024 with three winnable-looking Betway Premiership matches:

Tuesday, 17 December vs Sekhukhune United (H) – 19:30

Tuesday, 24 December vs Marumo Gallants (H) – 15:00

Sunday, 29 December vs Magesi FC (A) – 15:30
