Orlando Pirates eye Carling KO winner to fix defensive depth, but will they finally make a move?

Pirates are once again considering a move for Stellenbosch FC’s standout defender, Ismael Toure, as they look to reinforce their backline ahead of the next transfer window.

Toure, a dominant force in the Betway Premiership since joining Stellies from Marumo Gallants in 2023, played a pivotal role in the club’s recent success. His defensive prowess helped Stellenbosch secure the Carling Knockout Cup and maintain an impressive league campaign.

Top clubs compete for Toure’s signature

Toure’s rock-solid performances have drawn interest from some of the biggest clubs in South Africa and beyond. Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have closely monitored his progress, while Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club, led by Rulani Mokwena, is also reportedly keen on acquiring his services.

Pirates’ defensive struggles this season have only intensified their need for reinforcements. With Thabiso Sesane sidelined due to injury, the Buccaneers have faced vulnerabilities at the back. Despite opting against signing players in January, reliable sources confirm that Toure remains a prime target for the club.

Will Pirates make their move?

“He (Toure) is still on the club’s (Pirates) radar, and it’s just a matter of when the club will be taking the interest forward by making a formal offer. If you look around the league, you will notice that he is one of the reliable and consistent defenders, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed as interest in his services is growing,” a source revealed.

With his commanding presence, aerial dominance, and defensive solidity, Toure could be the missing piece in Pirates’ defensive setup. His ability to read the game and shut down opposition attacks makes him a valuable asset for any team.

Double signing on the cards?

As previously reported on March 4, 2025, Toure’s defensive partner at Stellenbosch, Thabo Moloisane, has also emerged as a target for Pirates. The question remains—will the Buccaneers secure both defenders or focus their efforts on landing just one?

With the transfer window approaching, all eyes are on Pirates’ next move. Will they finally make a formal offer for Toure, or will another club swoop in first? Time will tell.
