Orlando Pirates get green light for vital defensive boost!

Orlando Pirates are playing catch-up with league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns amid several key injuries in the defensive end.

Orlando Pirates lie nine points behind Mamelodi Sundowns with two games in hand.

The two met on February 8; Miguel Cardoso’s side dismantled the Buccaneers 4-1 thanks to Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s brace, putting Masandawana in the driver’s seat for the Betway Premiership title.

The Buccaneers had several starters missing, including defensive pair Olisa Ndah and Thabiso Sesane, who could have arguably contained Sundowns better than replacements Nkosinathi Sibisi and Tapelo Xoki.

It’s been five months since Ndah played, fracturing his tibia and fibula, an injury that could have had him sidelined for the remainder of the season, but he could return as early as this week.

Ndah boost inbound

“He [Ndah] has done well in the past few weeks and will be ready when selected to play,” an Orlando Pirates representative said.

“He is in line to return in the coming matches, possibly this week.”

Riveiro blunt on Saleng future

“I don’t speak about the health of my players; it’s something that belongs to a private space. And the moment that the club feels that it’s the time to speak about which players are injured, how long they are going to take, and which moment of the process (of recovery) they are in, they will do it. It’s not part of my job description, (and) it’s not an ethical thing,” the Orlando Pirates boss implied.

“I know it will be nice to know how close is Olisa [Ndah] or [Goodman] Mosele and what’s happening with Saleng but it’s not going to happen.”

Will Ndah be enough for Orlando Pirates to win the league?
