Orlando Pirates to make surprise move for Themba Zwane?

Orlando Pirates could do with a Themba Zwane figure.

Arguably the best to ever do it on South African soil, Zwane has conquered all the mountains, from Champions League glory in 2016 to eight league titles.

Mamelodi Sundowns manager Miguel Cardoso will reportedly cut down his forty-man squad in the coming months – the 35-year-old, after fifteen years at Masandawana, could be one of those ousted.

Zwane’s contract expires on June 30, and no signs have suggested that the Tshwane-giants will be renewing his services.

Chiefs to battle with Pirates?

Kaizer Chiefs are renowned for picking up out-of-contract Sundowns stars, including Gaston Sirino and Khama Billiat, meaning it wouldn’t be over presumptuous to assume that they’re monitoring the attacking midfielder.

Regarding Orlando Pirates and Zwane, the Buccaneers are yet to show interest in the Bafana icon, but that doesn’t mean they won’t. However, as things stand, Kaizer Chiefs are most likely to make a move.

Rhodes to Pirates

A player confirmed to be on Orlando Pirates radar is Cape Town City youngster Jaedin Rhodes.

“He (Rhodes) has been one of their (Orlando Pirates’) targets for some time now,” SoccerLaduma reported.

“They have been monitoring him though there hasn’t been much happening. They were targeting him for the January transfer window period.

“Now that it didn’t happen they have more time to work on it and will see what happens in the next window. But they are interested in him. That I can tell you.”

Another credible source said, “obviously, they (Pirates) will either loan some out or release some as well. But that’s the time they need to work on their squad and since it didn’t happen in January then they will work on it in the off season. Rhodes is one player on that list already.“
