Orlando Pirates reportedly close in on Appollis and Matuludi: Latest
Pirates are on the brink of a blockbuster deal to sign Matuludi and Appollis, edging out rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a high-stakes transfer.
Orlando Pirates reportedly close in on Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi, according to Soccer Laduma.
Pirates are on the verge of securing a massive R15 million transfer deal with Polokwane City for defender Matuludi and winger Appollis. The agreement could also include an additional player from the Buccaneers, which would seal this high-stakes transaction.
Pirates push for a January double signing
Insiders reveal that the deal is nearing completion, with only a few details left to finalize. The main sticking point revolves around selecting the player from Pirates who will join Polokwane City as part of the arrangement.
“The deal is as good as done at the moment. It is expected to be R15 million for both players plus Pirates are expected to give a player to Polokwane City to finalize the deal. The way things are going at the moment, both Appollis and Matuludi are expected to be part of Orlando Pirates in January. Though, yes, there are a few loose ends which need to be finalized, but it’s as good as done,” shared a well-placed source.
Otladisa’s exit shakes up the negotiations
Initial plans to include Katlego Otladisa in the deal have shifted. Otladisa’s loan move to Sekhukhune United forced Polokwane City to reconsider their options. As a result, Polokwane City is actively evaluating other players from Pirates who can fit their tactical needs, especially as they lose a winger in Appollis.
“You remember City was interested in Otladisa? That’s the player who could have been involved in the exchange of the two from Polokwane City plus the R15 million. But now that Otladisa is going to Sekhukhune United, things took a new twist. Polokwane City want a player who will fit their needs and style of play as they are losing a winger in Appollis. So, as soon as that is sorted out, the move will be completed,” another source explained.
Pirates beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs to the punch
If the deal goes through, Pirates will successfully trump their long-time rivals, Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs had also shown interest in Appollis and Matuludi. But were reportedly hamstrung by financial constraints, leaving Pirates in pole position to capture the duo.
Polokwane City initially aimed to send Appollis to Europe or North Africa. But those plans fell through, paving the way for Pirates to swoop in with an irresistible offer.
With Appollis and Matuludi poised to don the black and white jersey. Orlando Pirates are positioning themselves for a strong push in the second half of the season. Fans eagerly await official confirmation, as the Buccaneers edge closer to landing two of South Africa’s brightest talents.
