Orlando Pirates are set to axe four first-team stars, but who is on the chopping block?

As the season winds down, Pirates are reportedly preparing for a major squad overhaul. A source close to the club have revealed that at least four senior players are expected to leave when their contracts expire.

Who’s on the Pirates exit list?

A well-placed source confirmed the club’s intent, stating:

“What I can tell you for now, apparently, is that it’s believed these four players could be the ones to leave. The club is working with all the involved parties to look at the way forward so that they can reach an amicable solution where it is needed. So far, the four players are on the list and are expected to leave at the end of the season.”

A source singled out club captain Innocent Maela, midfielders Phillip Ndlondlo and Karim Kimvuidi, and striker Zakhele Lepasa as players the club will likely let go.

Earlier this year, when Lepasa was recovering from injury. Pirates reportedly planned to give him another chance to prove himself. However, fresh reports suggest a change of heart within the club. According to a source close to the player, management has now decided to part ways with the forward.

Making room for new signings

The departures aren’t just about contracts expiring. The club is actively making space for new signings ahead of the upcoming season.

“Some of the players who are going to be released are set to open up space for new arrivals. The club has already identified players to be signed, and that’s why they are believed to be set to release some players, including these four,” the source added.

New faces on the horizon

Pirates are already making moves to strengthen their squad. With Baroka FC’s midfielder Kabelo Kgositsile reportedly securing a long-term deal starting in July. The Buccaneers expect to add more new signings as they revamp their roster.

With key players set to exit, the question remains. Will these changes propel Orlando Pirates to greater success, or will the shake-up create instability within the squad? Only time will tell.
