Orlando Pirates transfer news: Moloisane, Basadien, Appollis

Orlando Pirates made one big mistake by not signing any players in the January transfer. Injury to Thabiso Sesane changed everything.

Orlando Pirates could sign several top defenders next season to boost their leaky defence.

The Buccaneers have struggled for consistency in the second half of the season, having led the Betway Premiership for seven rounds. This past January, the Soweto giants did not sign any player despite injury to their two defenders.

According to Soccer Laduma, Orland Pirates are eyeing Stellenbosch key defender Thabo Moloisane.

“As far as defenders are concerned. Pirates’ main target is Thabo (Moloisane) and that’s why they are set to table an offer for him. They are looking at strengthening the central defence as they are looking at having a strong backline next season where they will compete in almost all the competitions including the CAF Champions League,” a source told the publication.

“Moloisane has grown as a player. He is playing in Africa with Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates are looking at that as an advantage to sign him. You know the club is also looking at right back and left back.”

Orlando Pirates have lost Thabiso Sesane to injury

The Buccaneers have been without key defender Thabiso Sesane for several weeks now. With experience defender Thapelo Xoki back from injury, Jose Riveiro was hoping the Bafana Bafana defender can keep things orgainsed at the back. Two defeats in March proved Xoki is not ready for the challenge.

Another position that Orlando Pirates need to look at is the left-back position. The club could sign Stellies left-back Fawaaz Basadien in the pre-season. The Sea Robbers can make a swap with one of their players to bring the quality defender to Soweto. With Relebohile Mofokeng set to leave end of the season, the club can bring Oswin Appollis as his replacement.

Orlando Pirates are next in action this weekend against SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup.
