Orlando Pirates want a new striker, two linked so far but Bucs taking their time.

Pirates are in no rush to make a decision on their striking options, despite strong links with Golden Arrows forward Lungelo Nguse. The Buccaneers, seeking to strengthen their attack, have been considering several options. However, sources suggest they are unlikely to make a move for Nguse anytime soon.

Pirates’ striking struggles continue

The Pirates’ striking department has been under scrutiny this season, with several key players failing to find their rhythm. New signing Gilberto has yet to make a significant impact, despite earning opportunities under coach Jose Riveiro. Meanwhile, Boitumelo Radiopane is struggling to regain form after a long injury layoff, and Monnapule Saleng has faced personal challenges, limiting his availability for the team. Zakhele Lepasa has also battled injury woes, leaving the Bucs in search of attacking reinforcements.

As a result, Pirates are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing in fresh talent to bolster their strike force. Lungelo Nguse, the 25-year-old forward from Golden Arrows, has emerged as a potential target. However, according to insider sources, any deal for Nguse is unlikely to materialize in the upcoming January transfer window.

Patience is key for January deals

A source close to the club commented: “You must remember that Pirates are also interested in Muzomuhle Khanyi, who is doing well and scoring goals in the MFC (Motsepe Foundation Championship), but for him too, it’s something that’s unlikely to happen now in January if the club is to make a formal offer.”

This suggests that while Nguse and Khanyi are on the radar, Pirates will take a cautious approach before committing to any moves. The club appears focused on ensuring they make the right call, with a preference for long-term solutions rather than quick fixes.

Rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the mix

Nguse’s performances have caught the attention of more than just Orlando Pirates. Reports indicate that the player has also attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs, a rival club that is closely monitoring his progress. In the current season, Nguse has netted just one goal in seven matches for Lamontville Golden Arrows, but his potential is undeniable.

Despite his modest goal tally, the 25-year-old forward has shown promise and could be a valuable asset for any team looking to reinforce their attack. However, with Pirates not eager to rush into a deal, Nguse’s future remains uncertain for now.

Pirates’ attack: Goals still hard to come by

At present, the Pirates’ striking department is underperforming, with the club’s leading scorers failing to make a substantial impact. Evidence Makgopa has netted six goals in 15 matches across all competitions, while Tshegofatso Mabasa has scored four goals in 18 appearances. These figures highlight the need for fresh firepower, and Nguse, along with other targets, could provide the boost the Buccaneers need.

For now, however, Orlando Pirates are taking a measured approach, with any potential striker deals likely to be pushed back until later in the transfer window.
