Kaizer Chiefs came out of the January transfer window with three new signings to bolster them in 2025 and beyond.
Chiefs needed to strengthen their squad with experience and quality in order to improve their fortunes this current campaign.
Chiefs signed experienced players
The club currently finds itself fifth in the Betway Premiership where they have been inconsistent. They were embarrassed 4-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns in a Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final was well. That loss arguably was the turning point for the Chiefs coaching staff and management in terms of their approach. Furthermore, they knew they needed to help youngsters Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba and Samkelo Zwane with some experience.
Subsequently, they went on to sign DRC international winger Glody Lilepo, striker Tashreeq Morris and Thabo Cele. The two forwards Lilepo and Morris were confirmed to have signed a 2-and-a-half year deals. While midfielder Cele, however, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Chiefs.
Morris, Lilepo and Cele new additions
Having scored the winner against Chiefs for SuperSport this season, Morris is no stranger to Amakhosi. Furthermore, his signing means DRC winger Christian Saile moves the other way in a swap deal on loan until the end of the season. He was joined by Lilepo in boosting the attacking department, with the DRC international winger signing from French third tier side Valenciennes FC. It is believed the club paid R9.6 million for his services.
Then finally, another signing is Cele, a Bafana Bafana international midfielder that returns home to play in South Africa. The well travelled box-to-box star has played in Portugal, Poland and Russia. A self-confessed Chiefs fan, he will obviously be excited to get started in his new colours.
