Several signings appear imminent six days into the PSL’s January transfer window.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are linked with several stars but have yet to make anything official, which appears likely to change in the coming weeks.

Rumours around the league

  • Thalente Mbatha’s agent, Mike Makaab, has washed away rumours of the Orlando Pirates midfielder being approached by Championship side Sunderland, saying, “This is not true.”
  • According to the pan-Arab publication Al-Arab, Percy Tau and Al Ahly have agreed on terms for a move to Qatar SC amid PSL interest.
  • Kaizer Chiefs are eager to sign Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa, who has been struggling for game time this season.
  • Reports of Gaston Sirino’s contract termination has simmered down following allegations that he had been skipping practice, angering the likes of Nasreddine Nabi, yet the PSL veteran appears set to stay.

Kaizer Chiefs agree terms with Mduduzi

Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about his displeasure with Kaizer Chiefs’ performances, singling out everyone but Mduduzi Shabalala, who is fast becoming the AmaKhosi’s poster boy.

Kaizer Chiefs have decided their future lies with the 20-year-old prodigy having inked a new deal that will keep him at the club for the next three years; the PSL is in good hands.

“The club (Chiefs) is making sure they keep almost all their valued youngsters because in the past they have lost some of them to rivals and that’s why they have offered Mdu (Shabalala) another three-year contract,” a source confirmed.

“You remember he signed a three-year contract in June 2022 until June 2025? And the one the club has tabled now will take his stay at Naturena until at least June 2028. That’s what the club is looking at,” the concluded.

A second source confirmed rumours, saying, “at the moment we can’t say it’s a done deal already. But he is a Kaizer Chiefs youth product and he loves to be at the club and that works well in the negotiations as both the club and player need each other. So it looks positive that before the end of the current season, Mdu (Shabalala) would have put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.”
